SUNSolaris System Administration is an internationally recognised qualification
for the SUN Microsystems Solaris10 Operating System. This 2 part exam course
is covered over a period of 1 year at the Academy. It is divided into 2
international examinations: Part I and Part II. The pass mark is 61% of
the overall examination. Part I covers the Solaris Operating Environment
administration and command execution. The Solaris Operating System is built
on the System Five OS (the BSD Software) and is a UNIX flavour Operating
System. One needs to understand the system and UNIX Shell commands to pass
the Exam.
Part II of the course covers UNIX/Solaris networking concepts like UNIX
Naming Services, Solaris Zones and Advanced Installation Procedures. This
exam also requires one to attain a score of 61% to be able to pass the overall
course. One becomes a SUNSolaris10 System Administrator after both exams
have been completed with an aggregate score of 61%. This course is not commonly
available in the country and therefore offers students a specialised qualification
which is highly sought after in the workplace.

Courses support experienced systems administrators to administer Sun systems
in a networked environment that includes Local Area Networks (LANs) and
the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS). Path leads to validation of skills
as a Sun Certified Network Administrator (SCNA).
The course covers topics in the following areas: Designing and configuring
naming services using Native LDAP in a Solaris environment; Internet Protocol
(IP) routing, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP) and IP version 6 (Ipv6); Implement, administer, maintain secure Solaris
OS against user and network attacks and Install intrusion detection system
and host-based firewall, identify threats and respond.

System Security is of paramount concern to most enterprises. Sun training

to help protect the information stored on your corporate networks. Our courses
also help you learn how to deploy and manage Sun security products for maximum
protection of corporate data.
The course covers concepts such as Implementation, administration, maintenance
of a secure Solaris OS against user and network attacks; Performing hands-on
response to security incidents, using forensic techniques and tools to get
back online while preserving evidence, etc.

SUN Web Developer is a 2 year course divided into 2 parts: Java Programmer
and Java Web Components. In the 1st year, students are introduced to Java
concepts and also UNIX basics to able able to navigate around Solaris10
with Java Desktop and do basic tasks like saving files, deleting files and
more.

In the second year of study, students learn advanced Java concepts and
actually involve themselves with creating Java components for websites.
This course is ideal for someone who wants to able to develop dynamic web
applications and build very sophisticated and fun-filled websites.

SAP/ERP
HR and Business1
SAP End User is an entry level SAP qualification that offers individuals
basic skills required to operate the SAP system. This is a 1 year course
at the ICT Academy in 2 parts. In the 1st half of the course students learn
how to operate the SAP system. In the 2nd half students learn about Business
Systems on the SAP System. They are then fully certified as SAP End Users.
Students can also further their studies in this stream by taking advanced
courses like the SAP Consultant K1 certificate or the SAP Technical User
qualification.

ICDL
Syllabus 4.0
The International Computer Driving License (ICDL) is a UK originated qualification
that offers students basic-to-advanced computer operation skills. The ICDL
course, spread across the first term of the year, is offered by highly trained,
qualified and experienced trainers and/or IT experts and consists of seven
modules. These seven modules covers everything from switching on the computer
to Internet and e-mail skills. Since this course is the very fundamental
and basic of all the courses offered at the Academy, it is offered in the
first term; in the Foundation year. This certification courses runs only
for 7-8 weeks, every first term of the year.

The A+ course is divided in two interdependent parts. This course starts
in the 2nd term of the first year. Students take the A+ Essentials course
(the new A+ with the 2008 objectives) which covers technical skills and
knowledge. Students learn to identify computer components, basic computer
networking concepts and fix/troubleshoot Personal Computers (Intel based).
This course is also an International certificate offered by CompTIA.

In the 3rd term of the first year students embark on the last part of A+,
the A+ Electives. There are 2 sub-parts: the field technician and the call
centre technician. The field technician introduces hands on technical skills
for Operating Systems. The call centre technician is a new concept in the
A+ syllabus and introduces technical skills in the call centre field.

The CompTIA Network+ course is the entry level Microsoft based networking
certificate. This course merely exposes and introduces the student to networking
term and theories and/or standards. This course is covered in the last term
of the year (South African Calendar). Students are offered enough assistance
to prepare for the International examination of each module. Resources,
from recognised sources, are made available for students on campus. This
is ideal for self-driven individuals who prefer to study on their own.

CISCO
CCNA Associate
The Cisco CCNA course gives students advanced Networking Skills built on
the Network+ course offered in 1st year. The CCNA course is a Cisco Systems
recognised advanced network administration qualification. The CCNA qualification
is a 4 Part Course: Part I is the CCNA 1 examination, Part II is CCNA 2,
Part III is CCNA 3 and Part IV is CCNA 4 exam. Students then sit a final
internationally recognised examination. The Cisco CCNA course gives students
advanced Networking Skills built up from the Network+ course in first year
(see CompTIA Network+). Students work on real Cisco Routers to build their
own networks and restrict access and/or give access on such networks. The
CCNA qualification is one of the highly scarce qualifications in the country.

FWLAN/CCNP Programmer
In the 2nd year, students also learn Cisco FWLAN (Fundamentals of Wireless
Local Area Networks) skills. Students are taught how to build and administer
wireless networks. (The CCNA course concentrates on basic wired networks).
This is another scarce qualification in South Africa and graduates will
be highly sought after in the workplace.

Workplace
Practical Exposure
The Workplace Rotations programme offers practical skills to students by
placing them to work for short periods in corporate companies around the
country. This programme is in line with the SAQA NQF level 4 standard. It
provides students with hands on experience of the working environment.
