THE GERMAN DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION PROVIDING INITIAL FUNDING.
With generous financial support from German funding agency DEG, the academy
provides a curriculum offering socialized skills that are demand driven.
In the end the project will aim to provide Microsoft, Java, Oracle, SAP
and Unix-based training.
Since it was founded in 1962, one of the DEG's main tasks has been to
support German companies carrying out their business abroad. DEG offers
German companies investing in developing and emerging market countries the
support of investment managers with long-term experience in this special
field of business.

Participation
The ICT Academy curriculum strives to address the direct needs of the ICT
industry in Southern Africa. Students complete 3 practical workplace exposure
internships in one of the companies in the ICT Academy Consortium, or any
other company keen to provide such exposure. They are teamed up with mentors,
working and observing to gain a practical experience of their chosen field.
Tuition is provided by qualified service providers. T-Systems sponsors
the current administration and management at the foundation level. Onsite
Training has been appointed the provider of choice; it deploys 4 lecturers
for the week-end training, supported by 2 ICT Academy tutors who assist
students with remedial classes during the week.
CIDA
City Campus
PROVIDES THE ACADEMY WITH PREMISES AND STUDENTS.
CIDA is a registered and accredited, non-profit, private, higher education
institution founded in 1999 in South Africa. The campus attempts to resolve
the dilemma of providing quality higher education on a mass scale.
Provisionally registered by the Dept. of Education in South Africa for the
qualifications as shown on registration certificate no. 02HS05

INTERNATIONAL IT COMPANY PROVIDING HARDWARE, COURSE MATERIAL AND CERTIFICATION
Sun is part of a consortium that has established an ICT Academy at CIDA City
Campus. The consortium, which is made up of some of South Africa's most notable
ICT organisations, will see benefits from this academy as it will develop
and nurture individuals into marketable employees for the South African ICT
sector.
A 3 year curriculum is offered, with the first year consisting of a foundation
in information technology, where the students will write A+, Network+ and
ICDL exams. Thereafter the students will have the option to choose from three
streams of specialisation, such as Java programming and Solaris, Enterprise
Resource Planning (SAP) and Networking (Cisco). Sun SA has a 2 year agreement
with the CIDA ICT Academy to provide Java Programming and Unix training.

CERTIFICATION
Cisco Systems is the brainchild of a small group of computer scientists from
Stanford University. Since the company began, solutions for education have
always been a core area of expertise for Cisco as well as an area of revenue
generation.Cisco has a major focus on fostering education around the world
and reducing the digital divide.
Through the Cisco Networking Academy Program, Cisco is passing on its networking
skills and sharing its intellectual capital with people all around the world.

For all specialised streams, qualified lecturers are chosen by the partner
of choice in the specific field – Programming: Sun Microsystems; Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP): EGEDI Learning Solutions as appointed by SAP Africa;
and Networking: Cisco Systems
Other companies supporting the students with exposure to workplace programs
